Up and Away

Last weekend, we took the boys to the Air Force Museum in Dayton. Sam really liked it. He told us this was his favorite plane:

Okay, not really, but he did really like this one:

He was scared of going through the inside of this plane when he went through with me, but manned up and went through again with Daddy.

He was really into this rescue helicopter from the Korean War. Kept telling us all about the rotors. I know more now about helicopters than I ever needed to know thanks to Sam's library books on the subject. Today, while he was talking to me about his helicopter book, I guess I was staring at the TV instead of listening to him. He looked at me and said, "Mom, stop watching that. Just watch me." Whoops.

But his favorite part of the entire experience was getting to sit in a cockpit, or "where the pilots sit," as Sam calls it. He was so excited - he's still talking about it almost a week later!

After the museum, we had a delicious dinner at Sue's with Brett and Dianah. Jude got some Uncle Brett and Neenee time in!

Things Kids Say

My friend Donna is always telling me I need to make sure I write down the cute things my kids say because they'll love hearing about them later (and we'll laugh again). Here's a few of Sam's quotes from the last 2 days:

Sam: "I want to be a pilot someday. And you can be my co-pilot. And Daddy can be my passenger."

Yesterday, we took Jude to the doctor for his month check-up. Sam went with us. He kept asking us, "Where are the monkeys?" We could not figure out why he was asking that. Then I realized.... it's from the story "Five Little Monkeys" (Mama called the doctor and the doctor said - 'No more monkeys jumping on the bed!').

Today, Sam woke up from his nap while I was still in the shower. He came to talk to me and I asked him to take off his pull-up and put on his underwear. He left and came back with only his shirt on.
Me: "Sam, you don't have any underwear on!"
Sam: "I have my penis on."

After we got the underwear situation fixed, he decided to read some stories to Jude.
Sam: "Jude, this is the last story. After this, you need to go night-night." Guess Sam hears this a lot!

The Dude is 4 Weeks Old

Jude is changing every day, it seems. He's really getting big, thanks to the buttermilk it seems I am producing this time around. Ben and I tried to weigh him on our scale and he is at least 9 pounds. He is the most content little baby! And Sam is back to normal and has been very sweet to him. This first week without Ben around during the day has been a joy (I realize that makes it sound like I like not having Ben around - not the case!), except for the miserable heat that's keeping us indoors. I'm looking forward to days when I can take the boys to the park again and not get lightheaded after 30 minutes.

I realized that I have been giving Jude the 2nd child treatment and not taking the thousands of pictures like I did with Sam. So I pulled out the camera today to get some shots:

The burp position. I love how babies look when you hold them this way - all scrunched up!

Sam trying to play with Jude. Jude's thinking, "Oh no, not you again."

I was holding Jude and told Sam to put his head next to Jude's so I could take a picture of the two of them. This is how he interpreted that.

I had to figure out a way to explain it to him so that he finally got it:

We brought up Sam's old swing from the basement. Sam wanted to push Jude in it. Poor Jude.

Lazy Sunday Morning

This morning, Ben let me sleep in since Jude decided to sleep in - until 9:00!!! It felt great. Another great thing - Sam got to hold Jude for the first time. He's finally settled down with Jude and hasn't been so rough with him (although he did tell Ben the other day "My want to beat Jude up!"), so we wanted him to be able to hold him. Sam was so excited! He did a great job.

Touch a Truck Day

Yesterday I took the boys to a park in Sharonville for Touch a Truck Day. We met my friend, Laura, her mom, and her 2 girls and another friend of Laura's. It was hot but fun! Most exciting for Sam was seeing the helicopters and the motorcycle cop. He got to see the careflight helicopters land and take off, and even got to sit inside one. When he got inside, he turned to me and said, "Mom, my want to go to the hospital." He got to meet the pilot too, which was exciting because we talk a lot about pilots and passengers in our house (when we play airplane, Sam is ALWAYS the pilot and I am the passenger). Although he was game for sitting in the helicopter, he absolutely refused to sit in the fire trucks, police car, or even on the motorcycle. He kept saying, "My like to see the helicopter again." So we did!

Helicopters are loud!

Sam and Addy in the helicopter.

Lots of fire trucks, none of which he would sit in.

Nope, won't even sit on the motorcycle
